In-Person handpoke
classes with victoria
Handpoke is a method of applying a tattoo without a traditional tattoo machine. Each stroke of the needle is intentional and meticulous. Our founder, Victoria LoMonaco, is a modern master of this method and will guide you through her process of applying tattoos in this in-person class hosted at Prince Johnny in Seattle, WA.

When you arrive to Prince Johnny, your station will be “set up”. Your gloves, needles and glides will be prepared similar to how a Prince Johnny resident artist would at the beginning of a session. After an introduction, Victoria will explain her process of applying handpoke tattoos and demonstrate the process for the class on a piece of imitation skin. You will then be given an 8” x 6” piece of your own imitation skin and walked through several application techniques including, dot work, line work, stipple shading and black work.
After you’re comfortable with the basic techniques, you will begin tattooing one of our pre-drawn stencils on your piece of imitation skin.
-
You can choose from a small selection of pre-drawn stencils designed by Victoria. The design is chosen to insure it can be competed during the class by someone new to the handpoke process. We are not able to accommodate custom designs for this class.
You are welcome to take your finished piece of work with you at the end of class, if you’d like. All other materials used will be disposed of according to Washington State law.
-
Washington State law requires all people that enter a tattoo studio to be at least 18 years of age. All participants will be asked to show their government issued ID and fill out a consent form to handle the tattooing materials.
Washington State law prohibits animals with the exception of licensed, working service animals. Please let us know in advance if your service animal will be joining you for the class.
You will be handling actual tattoo needles and applying actual tattoo ink, so no one under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be permitted into the studio.
Prince Johnny is not ADA accessible. The studio is reached by an outdoor inclined ramp, and 14 indoor stairs. There is one, single stall, all-gender restroom.
Groups are welcome and encouraged.
Prince Johnny welcomes all walks of life as a proud woman and LGBTQ owned business.

This class is designed for the person looking to try something different for an evening. The tattoo world can be a difficult one to visit as a spectator, but we hope to use this class to offer a sneak peek to the average person. We do not offer apprenticeships at Prince Johnny, nor do we aim to teach these techniques to anyone with the intent of becoming a professional tattoo artist. This class is for entertainment purposes only (and it’s a lot of fun).
-
You will use multiple sized tattoo needles that are customized for stability to apply in the handpoke method, A&D ointment as a glide, permanent black tattoo ink, latex or nitrile gloves, paper towels, plastic wrap, rubbing alcohol and imitation skin.
What is imitation skin?
Imitation skin, also known as practice skin or synthetic skin, is a product used to practice tattooing before committing to human skin. It’s typically made of silicone or a rubber-based material. Imitation skin mimics the texture and elasticity of real skin while providing a realistic surface for tattoo artists to practice their techniques.
-
Yourself, your friends and any non-alcoholic drink you prefer. Due to the nature of tattooing and handling needles, ALCOHOL OR INTOXICATED PEOPLE ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN PRINCE JOHNNY.
You will be wearing gloves and in a sterile environment, so eat before you come to class and leave the snacks in the car.
Be sure to wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting ink on. Ink spills do happen!
